Arms behind early or late?

Arms behind early or late?

  By: klynch71 on July 24, 2024, 12:10 p.m.

I'm new to the site and trying to go from a mostly arms swing to more of a body driven swing. I'm doing a waist high backswing with a focus on the pelvic punch move, and while I make solid contact, my arms seem to be behind where they should be at shaft parallel and at impact. I'm trying not to do much with my arms but maybe I am letting them get too far behind me in the backswing so they never catch up? Or is it that I need to move my arms more in the downswing? This also may be the least of my faults so any advice on priorities/drills to work on is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Looking forward to meeting you this week.

Yes, it looks like the left arm gets behind you. That's usually a link between the shoulder blade and the body. So it would take two things to correct. Feeling the trail arm more in front of the body, and feeling the trail shoulder blade more back. This combo would also make the rotation feel like it was happening from your lower core instead of your upper.

Overall there are a lot of good pieces in your swing, so working on contact consistency is probably the right place to focus.

Happy Golfing, see you this week,
Tyler
