Driver Hooks

I could use some serious coaching on my Driver swing - starting a little left and then diving left into trouble. I've been thru a lot of videos on the website here, which has really helped me understand my swing issues and the elements of a better release. So thank you so much for those.
My flat position at the top is quite obvious to me, so I'm posting 4 videos (hopefully in order) showing my attempt to achieve a more upright swing (before and after). The more upright swing feels quite awkward thru transition, but seems to produce better results.
On the website I haven't been able to find a video that directly addresses "flat swings". BTW, my irons often leave little comma shaped divots, indicating a flip release to me.

Hi William,

I think your description and swing match that of a pull hook, caused by getting a little steep at the bottom. I think you could work on the top of the backswing, but it looks like when you got less flat in the backswing, it caused you to swing a little more outside at shaft parallel and the face was open later. So I'm not sure it'll fix the problem, it might just cause more of a pull start line initially (see first picture).

I think your goal should be fixing just post impact. It looks like the right shoulder gets high and the right arm goes into internal rotation. Try this drill for feeling the left side stay higher and the right arm stay underneath longer.

Use this drill to get an idea of the right arm staying under the right. https://www.golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/connecting-trail-arm-sidearm-throw/

One other point, it looks like your hitting station could be limiting the driver. It looks like you hit the ceiling on the one swing, and if done correctly, your left arm being higher would cause a slightly higher exit path. Perhaps the steep at the bottom is trying to avoid hitting the ceiling in the finish. Just something to consider.

Happy Golfing,
Tyler

Tyler,
(2) 7 iron swings that you requested.
Swing thoughts: keep shoulders closed to target (want to see lead shoulder at impact, keep trail shoulder down), good end of transition position with hands (FO, P6).
Ball flies to right of ribbon (DTL): Is that in-to-out path or open clubface?
Looking forward to your thoughts, and next steps (or more of the same) to work on.
Bill.

Looks like the ball flies to the right more from the face than from the path. It looks like you'll need a little earlier, or more, motorcycle movement to compliment the shoulder movement. The path looks better, looks a LOT less likely to hook :)

If you feel stuck, we can talk about a little more hip rotation earlier in the downswing, while getting the face to square a bit more. That should help with the right start line.

Happy Golfing,
Tyler
