Not sure what to prioritize in order to improve golf swing

I'm trying to figure out the wipe, but no matter how hard I try to pull the handle left, it just gets the lead arm more pinned to the chest or causes me to lose angles on my posture. Based on my swing please help me identify the biggest areas to focus on. In addition to the wipe, I'm working on maintaining body angles and utilizing the negative torsion. Please let me know the phase to focus on and any drills (along with suggestions to improve my swing). Sorry the FO is not perfectly square.

Hi David,

Picking what to work on can be tricky. Please don't be too tough on yourself, sometimes I struggle with choosing what to work on for my own game. When in doubt, I like to work on the biggest piece relevant to the main issue.

I usually like to address a ball flight or contact skill with the technique. Am I working on better contact? Better direction? More distance? Better distance control? So it's possible that knowing what you want to work on would change my answer, but the thing that jumps out to me is sequencing. It looks like the upper body dominates the transition. It's hard to do the wipe if the upper body is too dominant. When doing the wipe properly, the lower body and core rotation will pull the arm in front.

If you haven't worked on sequencing, let's start with these ideas - https://www.golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/presetting-spine-rotation/

Happy Golfing,
Tyler

I just wanted to say thanks. Your description of the late shoulder spin issue has helped a lot. It totally changed the concept of what my arms and body are supposed to do. Despite being self-taught, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the golf swing, but I clearly have a few concepts wrong. This one concept will save me a lot of time. I never thought a simple shift in perspective could have such an impact. It makes the swing seem much easier to manage.

Hi David,

Thanks for sharing your feedback. It's amazing how some of the subtle looks can be cleaned up by the shoulder blades. Self taught can be a real asset, but even the best self taught golfer can often benefit from a little guidance every now and again :)

Good luck, happy golfing,
Tyler
