Progress on swing

Hi Tyler,

I’ve been working on your suggestions (not straightening trail arm as quickly) and was hoping you could take a look.

I’ve noticed to get to the ball with a more bent trail arm I’ve got to rotate more into impact. I’m kind of letting my arms fall in a relaxed manner as I think tension is an issue for me too. I don’t feel I have to actively rotate my arms as hard, things seem to square up more naturally, and the release/follow through look better too.

I’ve been using a training aid to help get in a better position at the top of the backswing and to “feel” that I’m keeping that trail arm bent longer, seems to help. Only hitting this six iron maybe 70 yards, and very low but on target.

The thing I’m noticing is maybe i need to get my hips more forward at impact, I think the hard thing is when I try to do that I tend to get out of posture.

If you have thoughts on how I can keep better posture at impact and be able to dial up the speed to start taking larger swings that would be great. Any other observations would be really appreciated, hopefully I’m on the right track.

Thanks!

Hi Don,

Sorry for the delay, missed this one come in on Labor Day.

As far as the swing, the arm motion looks better coming into the ball. I agree with the idea of getting your hips a bit more forward at impact, but can see why you would lose your posture when you do so. Through impact, your shoulder blades have a tendency to dominate the rotation and your upper body passes your lower body quickly through the motion. So to get your hips more open, you'd have to feel a little more spine extension and side bend instead of pure shoulder rotation. Perhaps a drill like the pelvic punch, while focusing on a short follow through would help you feel more hip and lower spine movement. If you look at the two photos presented, your shoulders are more level (look at the height of the right to left shoulder). That's your next puzzle piece to try and solve. Let me know if you have any questions about it,

Happy Golfing,
Tyler

Thanks Tyler I’ll start working on the pelvic punch. You hit the nail on the head, when I’ve tried to use my lower body and side bend more in the past I either do it way too early and stall/flip at impact from deceleration, or my chest comes up and I release too early. This sounds like a good one to work on to help with better sequencing.
