Chase the look or the contact?

Hi Jake!

10 handicap hooker here. I’m going for contact improvement and straight up face control, and I’m having luck with the trail hand uncock-with-wipe drill for some UD. When I get a successful rep in and I add my lead hand, I wind up in a spot that doesn’t look a lot like Tyler’s demonstrated 9 to 3 finish(one pic is posed, one pic is actual action shot). Specifically it feels pretty close into my body and my left wrist is in extension and starting to re-cock. Do I go ahead and follow the contact and adopt that as my endpoint, or do I try and stay wider and farther away and flatter with my lead wrist so it’s more like Tyler’s pics?

TIA Jake! Big fan of your golf and your music.

I have the same problem. I'll be curious to hear which drills help you the most so keep us posted.

One thing I noticed is that if I focus more on keeping my right wrist extension and fingers almost moving down (like turning a doorknob) while extending the right elbow farther past impact it helps get me wider at impact. I also have to remind myself not to pull down/behind me as much but instead wipe across more horizontally and feel more power from the right side and body. It is hard to get away from that whip feeling that comes from a short flat spot.
