Take a tee and scrape a line in the ground. Set up so that the line would be roughly an inch ahead of your ball position. Then take swings and compare to the line when you take a divot. In the ideal situation, you will take the divot about an inch after the line, and your divot will be about the size of a dollar bill. If you can accomplish this task, then solid ball striking is only a matter of having the clubface square-ish and the ball in the right place. You can also do this with the 9 to 3 drill.
Then, after you have a somewhat consistent pattern compared to the line, try and vary it by making small changes. Experiment with your release, the location of your pelvis, and the location of your shirt buttons. Through this experimentation you will find the easiest ways to make small adjustments for your swing.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:03,000
This drill is the advanced line drill.
00:00:03,000 --> 00:00:06,000
So as it says in the title, this is tricky.
00:00:06,000 --> 00:00:10,000
This is an advanced drill, but it builds off of the line drill.
00:00:10,000 --> 00:00:13,000
So if you remember, I'm going to grab a tee.
00:00:13,000 --> 00:00:15,000
If you remember from the line drill,
00:00:15,000 --> 00:00:18,000
basically what you're going to do is you're going to take a tee
00:00:18,000 --> 00:00:23,000
and carve a line in the ground so that you have a reference point
00:00:23,000 --> 00:00:26,000
for where your club is making contact with the ground.
00:00:26,000 --> 00:00:31,000
You're then going to set up so that the line is about an inch
00:00:31,000 --> 00:00:34,000
in front of the golf club just like so.
00:00:34,000 --> 00:00:37,000
Now in the regular line drill, what we were going to have you do
00:00:37,000 --> 00:00:42,000
was take swings and then look down and you should see that the divot started
00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:47,000
just at the line or even after it, but they should not start behind it.
00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:51,000
This is an advanced drill because I'm going to have you intentionally do things
00:00:51,000 --> 00:00:55,000
incorrectly to learn better the difference between good and bad.
00:00:55,000 --> 00:01:01,000
So in the advanced line drill, our goal is to make the bottom of our swing
00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:03,000
move around all over the place.
00:01:03,000 --> 00:01:07,000
So you're going to find out, well, what happens if I take a power, you know,
00:01:07,000 --> 00:01:10,000
a really aggressive swing, but I keep my weight back.
00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:13,000
Or what happens if my upper body dives forward?
00:01:13,000 --> 00:01:16,000
What happens if I cast my hands?
00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:18,000
Okay, that moved it, bait way back.
00:01:18,000 --> 00:01:21,000
What happens if I come a little bit more steep?
00:01:21,000 --> 00:01:23,000
Okay, that moved it forward.
00:01:23,000 --> 00:01:26,000
Everybody's going to have little different adjustments they can make, but this is a
00:01:26,000 --> 00:01:31,000
great little hand-eye coordination drill to start paying attention to where the club
00:01:31,000 --> 00:01:32,000
makes contact with the ground.
00:01:32,000 --> 00:01:36,000
Because there's two things that you can focus on as far as contact.
00:01:36,000 --> 00:01:40,000
One is contact between the golf ball and the club, and two is contact
00:01:40,000 --> 00:01:43,000
between the golf club and the ground, assuming you're not hitting a driver or a
00:01:43,000 --> 00:01:45,000
putter.
00:01:45,000 --> 00:01:48,000
Well, by focusing on the golf club with the ground,
00:01:48,000 --> 00:01:52,000
then if you're just getting ready for a tournament or, you know,
00:01:52,000 --> 00:01:57,000
you're using this as a warm-up, you can simply adjust the ball position to where the club is
00:01:57,000 --> 00:02:01,000
making contact with the ground, and we know that we're going to have a relatively solid strike.
00:02:01,000 --> 00:02:05,000
The other thing this can do is it can reinforce some of these movements.
00:02:05,000 --> 00:02:10,000
So, if my normal swing, all right, that hit just in front of the ground and went about four inches.
00:02:10,000 --> 00:02:14,000
Well, what if I was to add a little bit more side bend?
00:02:14,000 --> 00:02:19,000
Well, now it actually moved a little bit behind the golf ball, so there's a good indication
00:02:19,000 --> 00:02:24,000
that I changed my release or something else in order to account for the fact that my
00:02:24,000 --> 00:02:26,000
upper body was going back.
00:02:26,000 --> 00:02:29,000
So then what happens if my lower body goes forward?
00:02:29,000 --> 00:02:32,000
Now I moved it in front of the golf ball.
00:02:32,000 --> 00:02:37,000
So, I can make these adjustments and use the line on the ground to fine tune.
00:02:37,000 --> 00:02:43,000
And my goal is to intentionally move some back and move some forward so that I can figure
00:02:43,000 --> 00:02:47,000
out my spectrum of how I control where the bottom of my swing is.
00:02:47,000 --> 00:02:52,000
The hints I'm going to give you is that most of it is going to be controlled by where this is the
00:02:52,000 --> 00:02:56,000
angle of your sternum or your upper body and what your arms are doing.
00:02:56,000 --> 00:03:01,000
If you can figure out how to dial those two in, you're going to learn how to become very consistent
00:03:01,000 --> 00:03:03,000
with where the club enters the ground.
