Backswing Shoulder Plane

This is the compliment to the merry go round. Place the club across your shoulders and make a backswing pivot. Imagine there is a laser pointer pointing out of the end of the club, if you were standing in front of a mirror then you would want the laser pointer to hit yourself in the feet, not above the belt buckle. Once you have completed the pivot, then extend your arms away from you and put them into position.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
This is working on your backswing shoulder plane and this is kind of the

00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:08,000
compliment to the merry-go-round drill. So if you were to take a club and place

00:00:08,000 --> 00:00:11,000
across your shoulders and imagine you've got a laser pointer sticking out the

00:00:11,000 --> 00:00:18,000
left side this time, you're going to make a backswing and try to have the club

00:00:18,000 --> 00:00:23,000
point roughly towards the golf ball. If the club is pointing more towards the

00:00:23,000 --> 00:00:29,000
horizon like so, then on a video what that would look like is that would look

00:00:29,000 --> 00:00:34,000
like you stood up. But if you remember from the concept video that's not

00:00:34,000 --> 00:00:40,000
actually standing up that's lacking what we call side bend. So in the backswing if

00:00:40,000 --> 00:00:44,000
you were to put your left arm towards your on along your left side and then

00:00:44,000 --> 00:00:48,000
you were going to try to slide down and touch your left knee without letting it

00:00:48,000 --> 00:00:54,000
rotate this is side bend. This movement is what happens during the backswing.

00:00:54,000 --> 00:00:59,000
So if you watch I do this side bend movement and then I rotate and then

00:00:59,000 --> 00:01:05,000
it looks like I made a good backswing. So when you stand up in the backswing it

00:01:05,000 --> 00:01:08,000
will mess up your sequence on the downswing or it'll mess up your sequence for

00:01:08,000 --> 00:01:13,000
transition. So you want to practice making a backswing where this laser beam

00:01:13,000 --> 00:01:18,000
would be pointing somewhere towards the golf ball. If you do that it kind of

00:01:18,000 --> 00:01:21,000
minimizes the adjustments you'd have to make to get that left shoulder going

00:01:21,000 --> 00:01:26,000
back down in the downswing. So if you remember from the transition we're going to

00:01:26,000 --> 00:01:31,000
increase that movement or continue that movement as you shift your weight which

00:01:31,000 --> 00:01:36,000
means that you don't want to do it to your maximum capability you want to do

00:01:36,000 --> 00:01:41,000
it about 80% in the backswing. Okay so if my maximum capability is all the

00:01:41,000 --> 00:01:47,000
way down like this I mean I'm only going to go to about here in my backswing

00:01:47,000 --> 00:01:53,000
so that I can continue it during that transition. Okay so this will help you

00:01:53,000 --> 00:01:58,000
give the appearance of staying in your spine angle or not standing up in your

00:01:58,000 --> 00:02:02,000
backswing if you do it correctly.
