Ball Position For The Finesse Stroke

Creativity is more important with the short game than the full swing. There are many ways to be weak for a short shot, but only a few ways to be really powerful for the full swing. One of the things that golfers can do to help that creativity is to learn the different extremes in ball position and how they affect the shot. By experimenting with a few different ball positions, you can instantly add versatility to a simple movement.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,000
In this FNS wedge drill video, we're going to look at ball position.

00:00:05,000 --> 00:00:11,000
So in the setup video, I talk a little bit about the spine being open and just like such.

00:00:11,000 --> 00:00:15,000
Well one of the ways that you're going to control your distance and your trajectory is

00:00:15,000 --> 00:00:18,000
going to be with ball position.

00:00:18,000 --> 00:00:22,000
So the ball position with your FNS wedge swing is going to vary a little bit more than

00:00:22,000 --> 00:00:24,000
with your stock full swing.

00:00:24,000 --> 00:00:27,000
You can, I like to have three ball positions.

00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:32,000
So somewhere around the middle of my stance, which is going to feel very forward because

00:00:32,000 --> 00:00:33,000
of my twisted spine.

00:00:33,000 --> 00:00:40,000
So middle of my stance just like so, will tend to give me a little bit higher trajectory.

00:00:40,000 --> 00:00:44,000
The next one I play off my big toe.

00:00:44,000 --> 00:00:48,000
So there's kind of same overall setup position.

00:00:48,000 --> 00:00:52,000
The only thing I've changed is the ball position is a little bit further back.

00:00:52,000 --> 00:00:56,000
Now if I make the same swing, that's going to be a little bit lower and have a little

00:00:56,000 --> 00:01:00,000
bit more run on the release.

00:01:00,000 --> 00:01:05,000
The third one will be more your standard chip shot, which would be kind of like a block

00:01:05,000 --> 00:01:06,000
and hold.

00:01:06,000 --> 00:01:09,000
And to do that, you're going to have it more off your pinky toe.

00:01:09,000 --> 00:01:12,000
So same setup.

00:01:12,000 --> 00:01:13,000
Everything is the same.

00:01:13,000 --> 00:01:16,000
I've just got the ball position even further back.

00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:20,000
And that will tend to produce kind of the lowest than the most running style.

00:01:20,000 --> 00:01:24,000
So ball position can vary a good amount with these short shots and that's one way to

00:01:24,000 --> 00:01:26,000
help you control your distance and trajectory.

00:01:26,000 --> 00:01:30,000
And I recommend you experiment without least having two, but possibly three different

00:01:30,000 --> 00:01:32,000
ball positions to go to.
