Butt Fingerprint

This is a great drill to sense the location of the pelvis in the golf swing. Start with about an inch of distance between your tail bone and the wall behind you. Then take a practice swing as far back as you can on the backswing and then during transition, allow your butt to touch the wall and stay in contact with it until you reach waist height in the follow through.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,000
This drill is called the butt fingerprint and this is to help those of you who early extend.

00:00:05,000 --> 00:00:10,000
Now if you remember from the description video, early extension is when on the downswing,

00:00:10,000 --> 00:00:15,000
your lower body moves in towards the golf ball and your upper body backs up like so.

00:00:15,000 --> 00:00:21,000
Now often we're just very unaware of where our pelvis is because frankly we don't have a lot of sense of

00:00:21,000 --> 00:00:25,000
nerve endings that tell us where it is, the way that we do with our hands and our upper body.

00:00:26,000 --> 00:00:28,000
So you're going to take an object.

00:00:28,000 --> 00:00:35,000
The most common one you'll be able to use is going to be a wall, but this is a simple just a electrical covering.

00:00:35,000 --> 00:00:41,000
You can get at or plumbing pieces, you can get at home depo in the end of a shaft and it works pretty well.

00:00:41,000 --> 00:00:50,000
So you're going to set up so that your butt is just your fingers with the way from this apparatus or from a wall.

00:00:50,000 --> 00:00:56,000
If you're practicing at home, you can just use a wall and not hit golf balls, but if you take, if you create something like this,

00:00:56,000 --> 00:00:58,000
then you can use it when you're actually hitting balls.

00:00:58,000 --> 00:01:07,000
So the first progression in it is to take your arms and place them across your shoulders and just practice going to that follow through position,

00:01:07,000 --> 00:01:09,000
keeping your butt up against the wall.

00:01:09,000 --> 00:01:15,000
Now if you remember from when you got your first job and you had to have your fingerprint stagon,

00:01:15,000 --> 00:01:23,000
you're not going to just smooth your thumb up against the wall, you're actually going to roll from your right butt cheek to your left butt cheek.

00:01:23,000 --> 00:01:28,000
So you're going to go to the top of your swing so that your right butt is up against the wall,

00:01:28,000 --> 00:01:34,000
and then you're going to roll along the wall just like you're doing a little butt fingerprint.

00:01:34,000 --> 00:01:40,000
So the first progression again is with just your arms or sorry your arms across your chest using just your body.

00:01:40,000 --> 00:01:48,000
Make a little backswing so your right hip is up against the wall, and then go to your follow through position so that your left hip is up against the wall.

00:01:48,000 --> 00:02:00,000
But then as you get more comfortable, you can try to take little nine to three swings like you've been doing, go right butt cheek to left butt cheek.

00:02:00,000 --> 00:02:06,000
Right butt cheek to left butt cheek, and you can actually hit balls and use this as a little bit of feedback.

00:02:06,000 --> 00:02:14,000
So even in slow most swings those of you that early extend will get the sensation that your butt has left the wall and you'll lose that tactile feel.

00:02:14,000 --> 00:02:21,000
So you can practice this as a good kind of feel awareness of where your pelvis should maintain during the golf swing.
