Combo - Arm Shallowing and Left Tilt

Solid contact = balanced path.

When you change one part of your swing, such as shallowing your arms, that could make your swing too shallow if you don't also add a new steep. The common transition combo is to work on shallowing the arms and steepening with the left tilt (transition crunch). These two work together to set you up for a powerful transfer in the release.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:03,000
This combo drill is arm shallowing with left tilt.

00:00:03,000 --> 00:00:07,000
Now, oftentimes when you're working on something new,

00:00:07,000 --> 00:00:11,000
you're going to have to combine it with another skill in order for it to work.

00:00:11,000 --> 00:00:14,000
What I mean by that is if you're,

00:00:14,000 --> 00:00:19,000
let's say you've got a really bad over the top swing and the big scoop down at the bottom

00:00:19,000 --> 00:00:22,000
and early extension and standing up.

00:00:22,000 --> 00:00:27,000
Well, you've got a cluster going on there, but you hit good shots, right?

00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:30,000
Occasionally, or maybe not as often as you like,

00:00:30,000 --> 00:00:34,000
but throughout the round, throughout practice, you're going to hit good shots.

00:00:34,000 --> 00:00:38,000
Those good shots come from when your path is more or less balanced.

00:00:38,000 --> 00:00:43,000
Now, the problem is you have these extreme movements that are trying to balance out the path.

00:00:43,000 --> 00:00:48,000
Oftentimes, when you change one movement, it'll really move the path if it was an extreme movement.

00:00:48,000 --> 00:00:54,000
And so you'll have to disrupt or change one of the other movements to get it back to balance.

00:00:54,000 --> 00:00:56,000
Here's a common example.

00:00:56,000 --> 00:01:01,000
Many golfers get steep with their arms and then they slow down their body rotation

00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:02,000
and stand up a little bit.

00:01:02,000 --> 00:01:08,000
So they pull down kind of like this and stand up and they struggle with some contact

00:01:08,000 --> 00:01:14,000
misses, maybe a right path, maybe a left path, but they usually struggle with low point control.

00:01:14,000 --> 00:01:18,000
So oftentimes, we'll work on getting some arm shallowing.

00:01:18,000 --> 00:01:23,000
And what'll happen is if I do that same pivot and I shallow my arms,

00:01:23,000 --> 00:01:27,000
the first time I try it, I may top the ball.

00:01:27,000 --> 00:01:31,000
And the reason would be my body standing up is a big shallower.

00:01:31,000 --> 00:01:34,000
My arm shallowing now is a big shallower.

00:01:34,000 --> 00:01:35,000
I took away the steep.

00:01:35,000 --> 00:01:39,000
So now I've no longer balanced out the swing.

00:01:39,000 --> 00:01:46,000
Oftentimes, you're going to have to work on two things at once in order to totally balance a pattern.

00:01:46,000 --> 00:01:51,000
Common one is this arm shallowing with left tilt or transition crunch.

00:01:51,000 --> 00:01:57,000
Basically, getting my body to stay or to reflex and stay facing the golf ball instead

00:01:57,000 --> 00:01:59,000
of standing up.

00:01:59,000 --> 00:02:01,000
So they're good to work together.

00:02:01,000 --> 00:02:05,000
I'm going to work on that arm shallowing movement, maybe an uphump drill.

00:02:05,000 --> 00:02:11,000
And I'm going to work on that regaining flexion or getting into that left side or regaining

00:02:11,000 --> 00:02:13,000
my posture, however you want to phrase it.

00:02:13,000 --> 00:02:18,000
I like to call it the left tilt because that'll help you from, that'll help you do it more

00:02:18,000 --> 00:02:23,000
from the rib gauge so that the lower body can still lead the downswing.

00:02:23,000 --> 00:02:28,000
Oftentimes I find when golfers just try to regain their flex, they lose their lower body

00:02:28,000 --> 00:02:34,000
completely and they just turn into more of a crunch movement, not really just this increased

00:02:34,000 --> 00:02:35,000
tilt.

00:02:35,000 --> 00:02:41,000
Okay, so if I'm going to try to combo those movements together, let's say I've been practicing

00:02:41,000 --> 00:02:42,000
them for a little while.

00:02:42,000 --> 00:02:44,000
So I know what it feels like to do this left tilt.

00:02:44,000 --> 00:02:46,000
I know what it feels like to do this arm shallowing.

00:02:46,000 --> 00:02:52,000
I'm going to try and combo the two of them together.

00:02:52,000 --> 00:03:00,000
Get a little bit of feel, maybe do a pump drill and then give it a go with the golf ball

00:03:00,000 --> 00:03:01,000
down there.

00:03:01,000 --> 00:03:09,000
And by working on these two together, it should give me kind of a similar flight to the

00:03:09,000 --> 00:03:14,000
stand up as far as a amount of curve, but it'll give me different contact.

00:03:14,000 --> 00:03:17,000
It will give me probably different trajectory.

00:03:17,000 --> 00:03:18,000
This will be a little bit flatter.

00:03:18,000 --> 00:03:20,000
Ultimately, this will be a little bit more consistent.

00:03:20,000 --> 00:03:25,000
So if you're struggling with the arm shallowing, maybe you have to add a little bit of the

00:03:25,000 --> 00:03:27,000
left tilt or the transition crunch.

00:03:27,000 --> 00:03:31,000
If you're struggling with regaining your posture, maybe you're early extending, you might

00:03:31,000 --> 00:03:33,000
have to work on arm shallowing.

00:03:33,000 --> 00:03:37,000
Those two go hand in hand frequently, you need to combo the training of them together.
