Firm Left Side - Putting

In order to keep the lower body relatively motionless, often players will have to feel like their lower body has more tension in it or feels "firmer". Try keeping your front him, left for right handed golfers, firm until you finish the putting stroke.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
Okay, this next drill is more of a concept than it is a drill.

00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:10,000
And this is addressing what I call the firm left side, which basically means I want my

00:00:10,000 --> 00:00:14,000
right side to provide a lot of the force and the left side is actually going to serve

00:00:14,000 --> 00:00:18,000
as a little bit of a resistance that I'm going to hit through.

00:00:18,000 --> 00:00:22,000
It kind of seems weird in putting to think of having resistance, but it's one of the best

00:00:22,000 --> 00:00:27,000
ways to establish that lower body stability.

00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:33,000
And it's more common in other sports like hockey or lacrosse or baseball.

00:00:33,000 --> 00:00:37,000
So if you're fighting in those sports, this may feel somewhat familiar.

00:00:37,000 --> 00:00:44,000
What I mean by this lower left side stability is basically or the firm left side.

00:00:44,000 --> 00:00:50,000
Is basically this left side is not going to continue to chase after the stroke, right?

00:00:50,000 --> 00:00:53,000
It is going to be a little bit more firm.

00:00:53,000 --> 00:00:58,000
But you'll tend to see, and we'll get into this more when we go over stroke distance,

00:00:58,000 --> 00:01:03,000
is that I tend to see amateurs who have the putter kind of chased towards the whole, have

00:01:03,000 --> 00:01:05,000
a really long follow through.

00:01:05,000 --> 00:01:10,000
They tend to leave a lot of putt short because you're not applying energy consistency

00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:11,000
or consistently.

00:01:11,000 --> 00:01:16,000
So the way that you do this drill is you basically stagger your stance so that your left

00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:21,000
foot is way forward and you're just going to practice hitting puts, not letting that side

00:01:21,000 --> 00:01:22,000
open up.

00:01:22,000 --> 00:01:27,000
And you'll feel that you can't really keep that putter moving because the body is not

00:01:27,000 --> 00:01:28,000
going to let it.

00:01:28,000 --> 00:01:29,000
So really it's more of a concept.

00:01:29,000 --> 00:01:34,000
I just want you to make sure that that left side is a little bit more firm.

00:01:34,000 --> 00:01:38,000
It will help with where you're creating your speed from.

00:01:38,000 --> 00:01:40,000
So give it a try.

00:01:40,000 --> 00:01:45,000
That with some of the arm and the hand things and using your big muscles will help you develop

00:01:45,000 --> 00:01:48,000
your proper putter face control and putter path control.

00:01:48,000 --> 00:01:51,000
So make sure you have a firm left side or else you're going to leave a lot of putt short.
