Head Drop On Wall

As important as our head is to playing golf, we are often unaware of where it is in space. Putting an object on your head, or your head on an object, will help make you more aware. Be sure not to apply so much pressure that it restricts your movement.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
The drill is the head on the wall drill for practicing impact.

00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:08,000
So while you're working on your impact positions,

00:00:08,000 --> 00:00:12,000
one thing that you can kind of pay attention to is where your head is in space.

00:00:12,000 --> 00:00:18,000
And what you'll see is if you were to start with your head or your hair or if you

00:00:18,000 --> 00:00:22,000
actually like doing it with the brim of your cap, but I didn't wear a hat today,

00:00:22,000 --> 00:00:26,000
just touching the wall, then when you go to impact position,

00:00:26,000 --> 00:00:29,000
the only thing that's going to change is your head is actually going to drop down maybe in

00:00:29,000 --> 00:00:33,000
inter 2, but it's going to stay relatively in the same place as opposed to

00:00:33,000 --> 00:00:39,000
backing up going this way. So you can work on that impact

00:00:39,000 --> 00:00:43,000
position of getting that weight into the left side, that right shoulder down,

00:00:43,000 --> 00:00:47,000
hands ahead, all those good things while your head stays up against the wall.

00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:51,000
The other thing, the other way you can use the wall while you're doing it,

00:00:51,000 --> 00:00:55,000
is to make sure that your head is not drifting forward, which is a very common

00:00:55,000 --> 00:00:59,000
problem, especially if you accompany it with a little bit of a scoop.

00:00:59,000 --> 00:01:03,000
So the way that you would set up for that is if you position the head

00:01:03,000 --> 00:01:07,000
off to your left ear. So I'm going to turn this way.

00:01:07,000 --> 00:01:13,000
And now if I got into my setup posture so that the wall is just off my head here,

00:01:13,000 --> 00:01:19,000
then when I shift my weight onto my left and get my hands in their good position,

00:01:19,000 --> 00:01:23,000
I'm doing so making sure that my head has not drifted forward.

00:01:23,000 --> 00:01:29,000
So if you can see this line on the screen, when I get into that impact position,

00:01:29,000 --> 00:01:35,000
my head is not drifted forward. So these are two key ways that you can use a

00:01:35,000 --> 00:01:39,000
wall when you're practicing some of these body movement drills at home,

00:01:39,000 --> 00:01:43,000
which will make the transfer over onto the range and onto the course that much easier.
