Hands Low To High During The Release

The arms working from low to a high during the release is important for having shaft lean but not a steep angle of attack. In order to have the hands working slightly up and in, you will want to have your body open and side bent and delay the straightening of your arms. This combination helps create a really good impact zone typically seen in consistent ball strikers. This can be used in a pump drill fashion or in a 9 to 3 style drills.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:03,000
The drill is low to high release.

00:00:03,000 --> 00:00:08,000
So, the drill is to help you with anyone who is early extending, anyone who is kind of

00:00:08,000 --> 00:00:10,000
scooping, casting.

00:00:10,000 --> 00:00:16,000
It's a overall drill to help you get a general sense of what we want the club to be doing

00:00:16,000 --> 00:00:19,000
kind of during this nine to three zone.

00:00:19,000 --> 00:00:25,000
And it's a specific drill for people who tend to have the hands very high in this point

00:00:25,000 --> 00:00:30,000
and then the hands and the grip will be working down as they approach the golf ball

00:00:30,000 --> 00:00:32,000
kind of like that.

00:00:32,000 --> 00:00:38,000
So in order to get out of that pattern and have a little bit more shuffling, then what you

00:00:38,000 --> 00:00:42,000
have to get used to is you have to get used to your hands being a little bit lower in this

00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:47,000
position and then slightly working up and in because of the bracing because of the continued

00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:49,000
side bend and left shoulder movement.

00:00:49,000 --> 00:00:54,000
So it ends up looking, you're kind of low in this point and then it's actually going

00:00:54,000 --> 00:01:00,000
to be working slightly up as you complete the rest of the release.

00:01:00,000 --> 00:01:05,000
So the way I usually have my students first experience this, especially if I see on video

00:01:05,000 --> 00:01:09,000
that the hands are really high and then there's a pronounced straightening in the shaft

00:01:09,000 --> 00:01:12,000
kind of like this.

00:01:12,000 --> 00:01:16,000
If you have that pattern, what'll happen is if you start to try to get any amount of

00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:20,000
shaft lean, you're used to releasing the hands at a certain timing and you're going to

00:01:20,000 --> 00:01:23,000
hit it fat and you're going to hit it really steep.

00:01:23,000 --> 00:01:29,000
So what I'll do is have them get set up, then we'll go to impact so it's going to go

00:01:29,000 --> 00:01:35,000
set up to impact and then I'm going to have them take the club away while keeping their

00:01:35,000 --> 00:01:41,000
lower body in impact position but I'm going to have them bring their hands slightly down.

00:01:41,000 --> 00:01:47,000
Now you'll see that when I do this, I'm not really doing it by straightening my elbow.

00:01:47,000 --> 00:01:52,000
I'm doing it more by bending slightly forward.

00:01:52,000 --> 00:01:59,000
So what'll end up happening is I get to that position and then as I come through, my hands

00:01:59,000 --> 00:02:03,000
are going to work slightly out because of this extension.

00:02:03,000 --> 00:02:08,000
Now what I'll usually do is I will put the club kind of like this where it's just a really

00:02:08,000 --> 00:02:16,000
subtle gentle out to in and low to high path and I'll have them try to almost trace that

00:02:16,000 --> 00:02:23,000
line with their hands as they're releasing the club or letting the forums rotate just a

00:02:23,000 --> 00:02:24,000
little bit.

00:02:24,000 --> 00:02:28,000
So from down the line, it looks like this.

00:02:28,000 --> 00:02:36,000
You're going to go set up, take it to impact, go slightly down and then as you release,

00:02:36,000 --> 00:02:40,000
you're basically going to extend those arms and finish off kind of like that.

00:02:40,000 --> 00:02:45,000
So if you have any trouble with the scoop, if you have any trouble with early extension,

00:02:45,000 --> 00:02:51,000
this is usually a good way to do the nine to three drills to focus on the path of the

00:02:51,000 --> 00:02:53,000
hands and how they relate to the path of the club.

00:02:53,000 --> 00:02:54,000
So one more time.

00:02:54,000 --> 00:02:59,000
Set up, impact, low release.
