Pelvic Angle Consistency For Wedges

Changing the pelvic angle can be a HUGE power source for the full swing, but can cause disastrous inconsistency when it is done too much for your finesse wedge shots. If you struggle with contact, double on video to ensure you are not making this big error in your short game.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
This finesse wedge drill is pelvic angle consistency.

00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:09,000
So we talk a lot about these finesse wedges and how we want to keep the lower body

00:00:09,000 --> 00:00:15,000
as more of a balance or more of a platform for balance and stability, not so much for creating

00:00:15,000 --> 00:00:16,000
a lot of power.

00:00:16,000 --> 00:00:21,000
And that goes all the way into your low distance wedges.

00:00:21,000 --> 00:00:27,000
So when I do 3Ds and when I look at 3Ds of really good wedge buyers, typically what you'll

00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:29,000
see is if I had

00:00:30,000 --> 00:00:35,000
this angle of my pelvis, let's just say I had a measurement here.

00:00:35,000 --> 00:00:39,000
When I get into my setup posture, it's going to be somewhere around 20 degrees or so from

00:00:39,000 --> 00:00:43,000
setup or from vertical.

00:00:43,000 --> 00:00:49,000
In the full swing, because I'm really using my lower body, my glutes, my abs, typically

00:00:49,000 --> 00:00:54,000
that's going to decrease about 20 degrees from the top of the swing to impact.

00:00:54,000 --> 00:01:01,000
So during the downswing has this major kind of thrusting move as it's rotating, which helps

00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:04,000
transfer power through the core, does a lot of really good things.

00:01:04,000 --> 00:01:09,000
Well what I've seen with golfers who struggle with their wedges is typically they'll

00:01:09,000 --> 00:01:10,000
use that same power source.

00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:16,000
Where the best guys instead of going 20 degrees, it pretty much stays about the same.

00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:21,000
I've seen as little as 3Ds change than as much as 5 for really good players.

00:01:21,000 --> 00:01:27,000
You struggle, it'll be in the 10-15 degree range almost as much as their full swing.

00:01:27,000 --> 00:01:31,000
One thing that you can focus on when you're working on your finesse wedges is to feel

00:01:31,000 --> 00:01:35,000
like wherever this belt buckle is pointed, it's set up.

00:01:35,000 --> 00:01:40,000
It's going to be pointed about the same place at impact.

00:01:40,000 --> 00:01:46,000
If you find that it starts standing up, you can whip, you can top of them, you can hit

00:01:46,000 --> 00:01:50,000
fat if you end up coming behind it just like so.

00:01:50,000 --> 00:01:53,000
There's lots of bad things that can happen from this lower body thrust, which is a big

00:01:53,000 --> 00:01:57,000
power source that we don't really want to use for the finesse wedge.

00:01:57,000 --> 00:02:02,000
So pay attention to where this belt buckle is pointing and you can use it with any incommination

00:02:02,000 --> 00:02:08,000
with any of your finesse wedge, release, and training drills.

00:02:08,000 --> 00:02:12,000
So hopefully that'll help you if you're struggling with the fat in contact with your finesse

00:02:12,000 --> 00:02:14,000
wedges and learning how to power it from the right areas.
