Pivot Drills

This drill explores the movement of the feel during transition. If you early extend, there is a good chance that your pushing yourself toward the golf ball as if pushing on the ground in walking or running. In actuality, you want to push against the ground as if you were walking backwards. Feel the right foot push at roughly a 45 degree angle.
Granted, the direction that you are pushing changes during the swing. But in general, amatuer golfers tend to push too much toward the ball, and not enough toward the target. The feeling of pushing the ground away at a 45 degree angle helps get a lot of golfers the proper feeling of lower body mechancis during the transition.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
This drill is called push the ground away from you. This is again to help the early
00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:09,000
extenders and what happens in early extension again is your butt moves in towards
00:00:09,000 --> 00:00:15,000
the golf ball and if you look at my feet my feet will tend to or my weight will
00:00:15,000 --> 00:00:19,000
tend to drift in towards my toes almost like I'm pushing the ground behind
00:00:19,000 --> 00:00:25,000
me like so in order to get up onto my toes. It's it's common in golf because
00:00:25,000 --> 00:00:29,000
it's a very powerful move if I were sprinting I'd push off the ground this
00:00:29,000 --> 00:00:32,000
way and if I were jumping I would push off the ground this way. Unfortunately
00:00:32,000 --> 00:00:36,000
it doesn't create a lot of rotational speed which is what we really want here in
00:00:36,000 --> 00:00:40,000
the golf swing. So if you early extend your moving in towards your toes in
00:00:40,000 --> 00:00:44,000
order to have more of a straight line path you need to feel like you actually push
00:00:44,000 --> 00:00:49,000
into your heels. So you're gonna practice hitting the nine to three shot where you
00:00:49,000 --> 00:00:55,000
push the ground away from you with your right foot. So it's gonna feel like you're
00:00:55,000 --> 00:01:00,000
pushing the ground towards the golf ball that will help keep your pelvis sort of in
00:01:00,000 --> 00:01:06,000
the box or in the same place where it started while you do the rest of this swing you
00:01:06,000 --> 00:01:10,000
know practice your good impact position and follow through position. So again it's just
00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:16,000
a simple concept you can practice pushing the ground away from you and for those of you
00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:20,000
that early extend this will actually be more of a straight line it's just gonna feel like
00:01:20,000 --> 00:01:24,000
you're pushing the ground away from you. This will help you in getting into that left heel
00:01:24,000 --> 00:01:29,000
much quicker instead of your transition going into that left toe.
