When you really know a skill, you can slow down the movement, or speed it up and still have success. Golf is no different. One great way to reinforce the movement of the backswing is to figure out where you want to go from the backswing. The next check point during the golf swing is the delivery position (the end of the transition). Sometimes, starting from there and working back to the top of the swing can be very helpful for clarifying YOUR best top of backswing position.

This drill video is rewind to backswing.
00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:08,000
So I like to play with time in some of these drills if you haven't noticed.
00:00:08,000 --> 00:00:13,000
I like to do what's go to impact position and work back to delivery.
00:00:13,000 --> 00:00:17,000
Well, that system works pretty well for going back to backswing as well.
00:00:17,000 --> 00:00:22,000
A lot of players have no real idea of where they think their proper backswing should be.
00:00:22,000 --> 00:00:24,000
I'm going to help you give you an idea.
00:00:24,000 --> 00:00:27,000
So what you're going to do is you're going to start in delivery position
00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:30,000
because that's where we know we want to get to.
00:00:30,000 --> 00:00:35,000
And then we're going to back that up to a backswing that will make it easy to get into that delivery position.
00:00:35,000 --> 00:00:38,000
So just refreshing delivery position.
00:00:38,000 --> 00:00:42,000
I'm going to bring my right elbow in towards my side.
00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:46,000
I'm going to rotate my forearms and then I'm going to square the club face.
00:00:46,000 --> 00:00:47,000
Just like so.
00:00:47,000 --> 00:00:50,000
Okay, so this is roughly delivery position.
00:00:50,000 --> 00:00:56,000
Now I'm going to get in my golf posture and I'm just going to make a pivot thinking about keeping my shoulder plain
00:00:56,000 --> 00:00:59,000
and the whole windmill stuff that we talk about and the other backswing drills.
00:00:59,000 --> 00:01:04,000
So if I go ahead and make that backswing move, now I'm pretty close to a position.
00:01:04,000 --> 00:01:10,000
Now I can kind of play around with how much set, how much, you know, little variance I want up there.
00:01:10,000 --> 00:01:16,000
But this is a good way of figuring out where my backswing should be.
00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:21,000
Because if I get my arms way behind me kind of like so, if I get my arms way up here,
00:01:21,000 --> 00:01:27,000
I'll find that it's going to be hard for me to get into this delivery position, which prepares me for that proper release.
00:01:27,000 --> 00:01:43,000
So one last time I'm going to go to delivery position and then I'm going to go ahead and pivot and make my backswing so that it feels pretty close to or it so that it would be easy for me to get back down into this delivery position.
00:01:43,000 --> 00:01:48,000
So sometimes when you're having trouble going forward, it's easiest to go back.
00:01:48,000 --> 00:01:56,000
I think that going from delivery position will help you figure out a really comfortable backswing position for what we want to do in the downswing.
