Tee'd Up 7-Iron - A Feel Based Shallow Drill

One of the cornerstones of a good driver of the golf ball is having a shallow sweeping motion through the ball. This is accomplished by having the upper body behind the golf ball and the lower body far enough forward. This combination creates the necessary axis tilt for the driver. A great way to train this is to try and hit balls off a tee with a 7 iron. If your upper body gets on top of the ball, your attack angle will be too steep and you will break the tee.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
This drill is teed up seven irons for your driver.

00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:11,000
So again, trying to get this more sweeping motion, one of the big problems that I tend

00:00:11,000 --> 00:00:14,000
to see with a lot of players who struggle with the driver is that they tend to get their

00:00:14,000 --> 00:00:18,000
upper body much too much on top of the golf wall.

00:00:18,000 --> 00:00:25,000
So this is a great drill to help you get a sensation of what you must do in order to stay

00:00:25,000 --> 00:00:26,000
back.

00:00:26,000 --> 00:00:31,000
So all you're going to do is you're going to tee up a seven iron, but you're going to

00:00:31,000 --> 00:00:36,000
tee it up so that the tee is tall enough that you could completely swing underneath it

00:00:36,000 --> 00:00:37,000
more or less like so.

00:00:37,000 --> 00:00:41,000
It's hard to do on these mats as much easier to do outside on the grass.

00:00:41,000 --> 00:00:45,000
So you've got it teed up just like so.

00:00:45,000 --> 00:00:51,000
Now what you'll see and what you'll try to do is you're going to try and sweep the ball

00:00:51,000 --> 00:00:56,000
by staying a little bit more back or getting some of this access tilt.

00:00:56,000 --> 00:01:02,000
So if I have this access tilt, you'll see that as I go to release, I very much easily

00:01:02,000 --> 00:01:08,000
just kind of brush or sweep and make contact with the golf wall.

00:01:08,000 --> 00:01:15,000
If I was to get a little bit more on top of the golf ball and do that same motion.

00:01:15,000 --> 00:01:20,000
So if I was to get on top of the golf ball like I was doing with an iron and if the club

00:01:20,000 --> 00:01:27,000
was traveling down it would basically go right underneath it and I would duff those shot.

00:01:27,000 --> 00:01:31,000
So essentially what you're going to try to do and all demonstrate on this one because

00:01:31,000 --> 00:01:33,000
this is actually facing the net.

00:01:33,000 --> 00:01:38,000
You'll be able to stay back a little bit more and if you do it right, you can hit the golf

00:01:38,000 --> 00:01:41,000
shot without actually losing the tee.

00:01:41,000 --> 00:01:47,000
Now this is to give you this sensation of your upper body being much more behind the golf

00:01:47,000 --> 00:01:50,000
wall or kind of even with the right side of your body and this will help with your

00:01:50,000 --> 00:01:55,000
access tilt which is one of the big factors for having more consistency with the longer

00:01:55,000 --> 00:01:56,000
clubs like the driver and three would.
