Having the upper and lower body work toward the target during the backswing is one of the most critical components to building a solid finesse wedge technique. This drill will help with the timing and tempo of how long the upper body should drift toward the target.

This finesse wedge drill is under hand toss tempo.

So this is a great drill for kind of helping put together some of the feelings of the upper body going forward in the arms kind of falling into your actual practice routine.

So what we're going to do is we're going to use an under hand toss to get the tempo of how much my upper body should be moving forward during the backswing.

So if I was to throw an under hand toss here in the net, basically what you'll see is I'm all the way back in my right heel, I'm going to go forward and my arm is going to kind of swing from my shoulder.

And what I feel is my upper body, I feel it moving forward towards the target now now now now now now now and it stopped right about here.

So this gives me a feeling of this tempo of my upper body kind of going forward. So what I will do now is I'm going to try and hit a few wedge shots where my upper body goes forward forward forward forward, forward, stop.

And it should be roughly the same as what I was feeling here with this under hand toss.

So it's a great way for you to kind of take a step back from some of the mechanics and start working on the overall tempo which helps you with your sequencing.

I got lucky with that flip but anytime you go back you're going to get too shallow and it's going to affect the path and make your consistency of contact really really tricky.

So you can use this feeling of the under hand toss and I've used it with players as part of their pre shot routines if they have a hard time feeling the upper body going forward in the backswing.
