Re: Favorite Pros?

  By: Tyler F on Sept. 11, 2024, 9:55 a.m.

I'm not trying to dodge the question. Maybe it'll help if I share what I use in lessons. I have a few clips redily available to show students. This videos have swings of

Xander
Scottie
Jon Rahm
Rory
Adam Scott
Nelly Korda
Lydia Ko
Justin Thomas (pr…

Re: Not sure what to prioritize in order to improve golf swing

  By: Tyler F on Sept. 11, 2024, 9:50 a.m.

Hi David,

Picking what to work on can be tricky. Please don't be too tough on yourself, sometimes I struggle with choosing what to work on for my own game. When in doubt, I like to work on the biggest piece relevant to the main issue.

I usually l…

Re: Core sequencing/lead shoulder jammed up

  By: Tyler F on Aug. 31, 2024, 1:03 p.m.

The shoulder shrug in the follow through is a common trait of golfers who lack significant upper thoracic spine extension through the release. So yes, you read the image correctly. Here are a couple of examples of golfers who share that trait. It's …

I think of the STS more as a framework for understanding how the swing works, so lots of players do a good job of maximizing their swings to get a really powerful swing with great flat spot and club fact control. So I like most swings that perform w…

Re: chip vs pitch

  By: Tyler F on Aug. 31, 2024, 12:50 p.m.

I don't differentiate a difference in technique. I think there are a bunch of attempted definitions, but I didn't love any of them. With your finesse wedge shots around the green, you need to be able to hit it low with less spin (could be called a c…

Those backswings are looking much better. I think you have a few good options for feeling a backswing that is better than just "rotating". Keep it up!

Re: Swing ID Wrist Measurements

  By: Tyler F on Aug. 22, 2024, 9:09 p.m.

This is the first I've heard of the Golfshot’s Swing ID with the Apple Watch. Do you know what those parameters are measuring and how they are calculated?

I'm guessing they assess the swing similar to the rotational numbers for the Hackmotion (it's…

Re: Understanding the golf swing

Hi Tony,

Yes, baseball has some helpful cross overs to the golf swing, but also some challenges. Check out this video I did on the topic - https://www.golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/insight-adjusting-from-a-life-of-baseball/

I don't directl…

Re: Hackmotion shows components from multiple patterns

  By: Tyler F on Aug. 16, 2024, 9:15 a.m.

Good suggestion on a video, the rotation graph is a little trick because it is a global measurement. It factors in the movement of the whole arm as well as the body. If you want help with the rotation graph, I'd suggest posting a video of your swing…

Re: Launch monitors vs short game

  By: Tyler F on Aug. 16, 2024, 9:05 a.m.

Don't worry, I wasn't insulted in the slightest. I like the idea that the best questions win. Or, as my mentor used to say, you can ask a question and feel stupid for a minute, or you can not ask the question and stay stupid your whole life.

The m…

Hi Tony, I agree that the short backswing is something worth investigating. It looks like it might have a baseball influence?

I have a number of drills that work on making a fuller turn, but it usually involves two components. The arms staying wide…

Re: Ulnar deviation with Hack Motion

  By: Tyler F on Aug. 16, 2024, 8:32 a.m.

The excessive radial deviation at the top of the swing is related to the way you set the club. You finish your backswing more by lifting the club with the arms and wrists while your thoracic spine stays in flexion. It's not a bad move, but it is how…

Re: Ulnar deviation with Hack Motion

  By: Tyler F on Aug. 10, 2024, 7:23 a.m.

One of the key links to radial deviation in the backswing is looking at the pivot and elbow bend. Ulnar deviation has a strong relationship with the vertical movements in the body. So it's important to compare the graphs with the video so that you c…

Re: Feeling of swinging club head out at release

Thanks for sharing the Chris Ryan video. That helps provide more context. I can do a video discussing his video and the concept.

In the video, I'll try to clarify my statement about tension, because to me, fascial tension is a key component for wh…

Re: Starting my self-coaching journey

  By: Tyler F on Aug. 10, 2024, 6:58 a.m.

Saw your video, the key thing with the rotation helping the flat spot is the direction that it is rotating helps move the handle up and in. So it's not just rotation, but the spine moving in extension and side bend with rotation (all together called…
