Hitting behind w/ shallowing move and high on face on finesse wedge.

I'm getting better at shallowing the ball but now I am having some low point issues and hitting behind it with irons and even with driver I've hit the ground sometimes.

Pretty sure when hitting the irons when I apply the axis tilt I am hitting it like a driver staying behind the ball and not covering the ball. I am also not extending enough to raise the arc height depth. So I am a bit confused because flat spot should make things more consistent, but does that increase the likely hood of not hitting it cleanly and getting behind it sometimes?

Second issue I have, when I'm using the bounce on the finesse wedge shots I am hitting higher up on the face and getting shorter distance. This kind of makes sense though considering I am not coming down on it as steeply.

Asking the community; any particular vids to help out with either of these issues, or any suggestions/tips to share?

Hi Gabriel,

This is actually common. All things being equal, shallowing does move the low point backward. With the driver, it usually means that the arms are too involved in the release, here’s a quick little video showing what I mean.

Flat spot does increase consistency when the flat spot is through the ball with a low point after the golf ball. But you might temporarily be creating a better flat spot with a low point behind the ball. I would check to see too much upper body axis tilt and look at the amount of body rotation. Those would the two steepeners that would help balance the more shallow arms.

If you want more direct guidance on your specific low point issues, feel free to post a video

With the short game, if the shot is too high, then I’d look at the axis tilt first to make sure the centers are stacked. If they are, then I’d look at the body and the arms working together, it could be too much arms and not enough body causing too high of a launch.

Happy Golfing,
Tyler

Good intel thanks Tyler. I don't see the link to the video but all good your explanation makes sense.
