Left leg straight too early

Left leg straight too early

  By: Adam L on Aug. 10, 2019, 8:34 a.m.

I have a tendency to have my left leg completely straightened by about P5.5-6 and then it buckles after impact. Is there a typical cause for this and any suggestions for drills to help? Thanks!

(Any other General input is also welcome)

The buckle almost always comes from overuse of the hands and underuse of the hips through impact. As far as the leg straightening too soon, I think a big part of it is the lateral movement of the upper body off the ball as you set the club. See the picture sequence to help. Use some sort of upper body awareness station to stay more centered should help.

Adam,
I would also focus on your pelvic tilts as well. Your left side rises in transition where pros actually lower the left side then rise up through impact. They leverage the ground which leads to pelvic extension. It doesn’t appear you are using your right leg to pressure the ground. Your pelvis actually lowers after impact. I have included a photo of Rory in transition. Hope this helps.

Awesome thank you both! I did some single leg and pump drills today to get a feel for using the ground more. Am I headed in the right direction?

Adam,

The pelvis and leg movement has improved. So great job there. However the upper body is moving too forward. I would work on keeping more centered with the upper body.

I agree with Chris, It definitely looks like you're moving things in the right direction with the lead leg action.
