Take Away - lower body vs scapula pull

I'm a little confused as to what starts the optimum backswing movement from some of your videos. I like the feeling of pushing off from the lead foot to start the take away as that seems to engage the lower body at the very beginning of the swing and keeps it engaged throughout the swing. But I also like the idea of pulling the scapula back to start the backswing - which is an upper body movement that seems to help with better rotation. Both approaches seem to minimize the use of the arms and keeps them relatively passive. Can/should the two be used together to get most efficient and consistent backswing?

Jake doesn't really check these posts anymore, but I'll add my two cents.

For the takeaway, I like the analogy of pushing a shopping cart. When you push the shopping cart, you use your legs/feet, your core, and your arms in concert. What you feel might vary person to person, but you're using your whole body. This is similar to a good takeaway. In order to push the leg, or move the scapula, the core should activate first. It will be a low level activation in the golf swing, but it should lead the sequence. So the core helps the foot and the shoulder work together to bring the club back and start the motion. But yes, I agree that both thoughts should help avoid an arm dominant takeaway.
Happy Golfing,
Tyler
