One of the keys for driving consistency is related to the height of the club from the ground. For the best players in the world, the club will be delivered at a very shallow angle and will remain at roughly the same height even after impact. This noticeable "flat-spot" is a major contributor to driving accuracy and consistency. On the other hand, players who have a shorter "flat-spot", or a club that enters and exits the hitting area with a dramatic change in height, will tend to struggle off the tee.
If you fall into the latter category, this is a great drill for feeling the body and arm movements required to create a longer "flat-spot". If you struggle at first though, be sure to focus on making just a few 9-to-3 rehearsal swings. If this is still difficult, try to pay extra attention to your pivot and axis-tilt. Of course, as you progress, be sure to add more speed and a longer backswing.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
The Striver drill video is brush all three teeth.
00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:08,000
So what we're going to work on here is a concept that I refer to as the club height
00:00:08,000 --> 00:00:09,000
to the ground.
00:00:09,000 --> 00:00:14,000
Many golfers who struggle with the driver don't have the club load of the ground for
00:00:14,000 --> 00:00:18,000
a long enough period of time to have any level of consistency.
00:00:18,000 --> 00:00:22,000
They either have the club load of the ground coming into the ball and then come up very
00:00:22,000 --> 00:00:28,000
quickly through the ball mostly with a flip or chicken wing breakdown in the release.
00:00:28,000 --> 00:00:33,000
Or they have the club height to the ground coming into the golf ball and then have it
00:00:33,000 --> 00:00:38,000
come up on the way through mostly because of upper body, lunge or lack of access tilt or
00:00:38,000 --> 00:00:42,000
a little bit more of upper body spin and lack of arm shallower.
00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:48,000
So this drill video kind of combos working on both of those aspects.
00:00:48,000 --> 00:00:51,000
So what we're going to do is we're going to take two teeth and we're going to put them in
00:00:51,000 --> 00:00:58,000
the ground about six inches in front and about six inches behind the golf ball.
00:00:58,000 --> 00:01:01,000
So they're at about the height of the golf ball.
00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:07,000
Now I'm going to set up to the middle teeth or just inside of it and my goal is the practice
00:01:07,000 --> 00:01:14,000
making practice wings where the club feels like it stays to the same level to the ground
00:01:14,000 --> 00:01:19,000
or the same height all the way from about right foot through to left foot.
00:01:19,000 --> 00:01:22,000
So a little bit even wider than the teeth.
00:01:22,000 --> 00:01:26,000
Now one of the traits that I see with good drivers of the golf ball is they tend to use
00:01:26,000 --> 00:01:29,000
more of their body for the power of the swing.
00:01:29,000 --> 00:01:33,000
That puts them in a position where they can get the club low to the ground before the
00:01:33,000 --> 00:01:38,000
arms really get involved and then when the arms extend you'll see that they'll extend
00:01:38,000 --> 00:01:42,000
more towards the target which keeps the club low to the ground.
00:01:42,000 --> 00:01:47,000
Many amateurs who struggle with the driver get the arms involved too soon and then they
00:01:47,000 --> 00:01:51,000
have to kind of bend and you'll see that the club doesn't say low to the ground for a very
00:01:51,000 --> 00:01:52,000
long period of time.
00:01:52,000 --> 00:02:00,000
So you're going to set up three teeth and you're basically going to try and just brush
00:02:00,000 --> 00:02:03,000
the top of all three teeth.
00:02:03,000 --> 00:02:09,000
It's quite hard to do in practice and actually hit a ball but it gives you a little
00:02:09,000 --> 00:02:15,000
bit more of a visual of trying to practice getting that club height to the ground to be a
00:02:15,000 --> 00:02:18,000
little bit more flat or consistent through there.
00:02:18,000 --> 00:02:22,000
That should help give you more high face contact when it tends to come up pretty
00:02:22,000 --> 00:02:24,000
quickly you'll hit it more on the bottom of the club.
00:02:24,000 --> 00:02:27,000
It'll feel thin and launch really low.
00:02:27,000 --> 00:02:33,000
So this will give us high face contact in order to do so it's going to require a little
00:02:33,000 --> 00:02:35,000
bit better sequencing.
00:02:35,000 --> 00:02:41,000
Then in demonstrating it's a little hard because you can't set up normal because the
00:02:41,000 --> 00:02:44,000
tea would get in the way of your takeaway.
00:02:44,000 --> 00:02:51,000
You're just going to try and hover a little bit and then clip all three teeth on a little
00:02:51,000 --> 00:02:56,000
nine to three so the height of the club is low to the ground for a long period of time.
00:02:56,000 --> 00:03:04,000
So as you get better at this drill you can work on having the tea a little bit further
00:03:04,000 --> 00:03:05,000
apart.
00:03:05,000 --> 00:03:09,000
So six inches is kind of the baseline but I like to see it close to the ground all the
00:03:09,000 --> 00:03:12,000
way from right foot through the left foot.
00:03:12,000 --> 00:03:20,000
So we'll see if we can get all three teeth with a semi normal swing.
00:03:20,000 --> 00:03:24,000
So you'll see there's a pretty good launch from the down the line pretty good flat spot
00:03:24,000 --> 00:03:25,000
clipping all three teeth.
