Myview - Delivery Pump

Watch the first person perspective of the delivery pump drill. A great drill for working on powering your swing, and transition, with the muscles of your core and hips instead of your arms.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:03,000
This is my view of the delivery pump.

00:00:03,000 --> 00:00:10,000
Now the delivery pump is one of my go-to transition drills for learning to power transition

00:00:10,000 --> 00:00:13,000
we were from the body instead of from the arms.

00:00:13,000 --> 00:00:17,000
So essentially what's going to happen is I'm going to get in my set of position.

00:00:17,000 --> 00:00:22,000
I'm going to go up to the top of the swing and then I'm going to try and use my body

00:00:22,000 --> 00:00:27,000
to bring my arms down to this delivery position before I would then go into that release.

00:00:28,000 --> 00:00:33,000
So the delivery pump is basically practicing that transition movement a couple times

00:00:33,000 --> 00:00:36,000
and then going through the rest of the swing without stopping.

00:00:36,000 --> 00:00:40,000
So I'll demonstrate one so you can see what I'm talking about.

00:00:40,000 --> 00:00:42,000
So we're going to go up to the top of the swing.

00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:47,000
We're going to go pump one, pump two, swing three.

00:00:57,000 --> 00:01:09,000
Now it's going to be hard for me to swing at exactly my full.

00:01:09,000 --> 00:01:12,000
So my ball flight may come down a little bit.

00:01:12,000 --> 00:01:15,000
Things may change just slightly.

00:01:15,000 --> 00:01:22,000
Now it's going to be hard for me to swing at exactly my full.

00:01:22,000 --> 00:01:25,000
So my ball flight may come down a little bit.

00:01:25,000 --> 00:01:30,000
Things may change just slightly, but it should be pretty close.

00:01:30,000 --> 00:01:36,000
Once I have a good feeling or a good view of this, I can try to recreate that same tempo,

00:01:36,000 --> 00:01:42,000
that same feeling of the body leading, that same image of how it looks using my normal swing.

00:01:42,000 --> 00:01:50,000
With troubleshooting, what I see a lot when I'm working with my students is basically when they go into this

00:01:50,000 --> 00:01:53,000
either the club face is going to be wide open.

00:01:53,000 --> 00:01:58,000
And so now I'm pumping like so, but then when I go to actually release,

00:01:58,000 --> 00:02:03,000
I have to release those arms like this in order to square it.

00:02:03,000 --> 00:02:08,000
It's kind of more of the flip release from the open club face position.

00:02:08,000 --> 00:02:15,000
Or I will when I pump down, I'll basically pump down by straightening my arms.

00:02:15,000 --> 00:02:19,000
And now when I do that at speed, you can see that there's no way I'm going to hold back the club.

00:02:19,000 --> 00:02:25,000
And so what ends up happening is I get into this position and then I have to stand up to prevent myself from hitting the ground.

00:02:25,000 --> 00:02:32,000
Because if I did any amount of really good side bend with those arms straightening, I'd hit way back here.

00:02:32,000 --> 00:02:39,000
So those two misses are typically going to be powering with the arms and kind of those arms straightening and bringing the club down like so.

00:02:39,000 --> 00:02:44,000
Or getting that club face open instead of the motorcycle.

00:02:44,000 --> 00:02:50,000
The good one is going to be very relaxed in the soft arms up until we're right about here.

00:02:50,000 --> 00:02:56,000
And then I'm going to extend my arms as I go through this release.

00:02:56,000 --> 00:03:00,000
So one of the go-to drills for working on powering the swing with your body.

00:03:00,000 --> 00:03:05,000
You get to work on the positions. You get to redefine kind of some of these tempos.

00:03:05,000 --> 00:03:11,000
It's a great drill for repatverning and repowering your swing more from the body in the core.
