The right arm throw is more like a shot put then it is like a true “throw”. You want the elbow to extend before the wrist flexes, so it is going to feel like a shot put because at impact, you will still have some extension in the wrist. To execute the throw, get into delivery position, then throw a ball a few feet out in front of the ball. Hold the ball in the center of your palm with just your thumb, like if you were hiding something the way a magician would. If you are going from delivery position, then you will feel a gradual rotation of the right arm as well as the extension. You can practice putting holding the release position and then putting the club in it’s place, it will look like the handle is well ahead.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:07,000
Okay, this drill is the right arm thrower or the right arm shot put to feel what the right hand does during the release phase.
00:00:07,000 --> 00:00:20,000
So, the body position is going to be the same as what you've done during transition, and we're now going to learn how to get from that transition into impact.
00:00:20,000 --> 00:00:27,000
So what you're going to do is you're going to take a golf ball and you're going to place it in the center of your palm for your right hand if you're right hand a golfer.
00:00:27,000 --> 00:00:32,000
And then you're going to grab it with your thumb like you were doing a magic trick and you wanted to hide it.
00:00:32,000 --> 00:00:34,000
Okay, so you're going to hold it right in the center here.
00:00:34,000 --> 00:00:39,000
I don't want you to hold it here because then the wrist has a pretty big strong lever.
00:00:39,000 --> 00:00:42,000
This is more of a shot put movement than it is a true throw.
00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:46,000
So you're going to hold it up against the center of your palm towards the heel of your palm.
00:00:46,000 --> 00:00:55,000
You're going to get into your golf posture and then you're going to do a shot put movement like you were throwing the ball, a few feet out in front of you along the target line,
00:00:55,000 --> 00:00:59,000
which would be kind of right about there.
00:00:59,000 --> 00:01:05,000
So in position, I mean, I get into that transition position and then from here, I'm going to extend.
00:01:05,000 --> 00:01:14,000
Now if you look at my wrist, you'll notice that it still has a little bit of a cup, even though my right arm is fully extended.
00:01:14,000 --> 00:01:22,000
What I see most amateur is doing in their swing is you would get to here and then that wrist would release like so,
00:01:22,000 --> 00:01:25,000
and it would be more of a throw with just the wrist.
00:01:25,000 --> 00:01:32,000
I want to get my arm, my tricep, my latin, these big muscles pushing the club down like so.
00:01:32,000 --> 00:01:36,000
So again, that right arm, you're going to get into this delivery position.
00:01:36,000 --> 00:01:40,000
You can notice that my palm is facing away from me.
00:01:40,000 --> 00:01:45,000
It's not pointing down quite yet, or it's not rotated this way.
00:01:45,000 --> 00:01:49,000
It's actually rotated so my fingers are pointing behind me.
00:01:49,000 --> 00:01:57,000
And then from here, I'm going to extend with just a slight amount of rotation so that my fingers are pointing right at the camera right away from me.
00:01:57,000 --> 00:02:12,000
If I then magically took a club and put it in the position, you could see that I would still have this somewhat angle just after impact before I got to that follow through position.
00:02:12,000 --> 00:02:22,000
So this really helps train the right arm of how it should release, and then you can move on to the single arm release drills to apply it when you're actually hitting a golf ball.
