Alternating Greenside and Fairway Bunker

A great way to practice your greenside bunker is alternating your greenside and fairway bunker technique

Once you've established your basic technique, then building skills is a key part of training. To do that, you'll want to avoid hitting the same shot over and over again. Switching targets, or clubs, is great at turning a blocked training session into a more skill-based random training session but I find making bigger changes to the shot more helpful.

One of my favorite ways to train bunker technique is alternating between your greenside and fairway bunker shots. But, keep in mind the practice facilities you're using. If you can't hit full shots out of the bunker, then use other practice strategies. But, if you can, hitting full wedge shots out of a bunker is really good for helping build your low-point control and stacked center pattern. It can be a distinctly different shot than hitting a greenside bunker shot, which really challenges your ability to hit the shot well the first time you try it. This can help with taking your bunker game to the course!
