Finesse Wedge - Chipping and Pitching

One of the gold standards of training your swing is getting a clear image of impact. There are some big differences in impact of a stock swing and a wedge. With the wedges, you will have less axis tilt, less body rotation, and straighter arms.

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:04,000
This drill video is impact fix for the finesse wedge.
00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:09,000
So just like in putting or in the bunker or in the full swing,
00:00:09,000 --> 00:00:15,000
I like to give your brain the information of where are we going to start and what is it going to look like when I make contact.
00:00:15,000 --> 00:00:18,000
Well with the finesse wedge swing, it's no different,
00:00:18,000 --> 00:00:23,000
except for the body changes and the arm changes are going to be much more subtle.
00:00:24,000 --> 00:00:30,000
So if I was to take my setup position for finesse wedge shot, you know, simple little shot,
00:00:30,000 --> 00:00:32,000
it'll look something like this.
00:00:32,000 --> 00:00:37,000
If I was then to go to impact, all you would see is my upper and lower body,
00:00:37,000 --> 00:00:39,000
so my belt buckle is in my shirt buttons,
00:00:39,000 --> 00:00:42,000
which shift a couple inches closer to the golf ball.
00:00:42,000 --> 00:00:46,000
I'd be very slightly open, so if I turn to face this way.
00:00:46,000 --> 00:00:49,000
My normal swing or the the tour normal,
00:00:49,000 --> 00:00:53,000
is going to have your hips about 45 degrees open and your chest about 30,
00:00:53,000 --> 00:00:58,000
so that they're kind of pointing out in front, like I talk about with the Ironman movements.
00:00:58,000 --> 00:01:02,000
So they'd be pointing out in front like so.
00:01:02,000 --> 00:01:06,000
Compared to where you start, four year finesse wedge swing,
00:01:06,000 --> 00:01:09,000
they're really only going to be open about five degrees.
00:01:09,000 --> 00:01:13,000
The five, ten, depending on how far you're hitting the shot.
00:01:13,000 --> 00:01:15,000
But it's very, very subtle.
00:01:15,000 --> 00:01:20,000
So the major movement is going to be more of a translation with my upper body and lower body,
00:01:20,000 --> 00:01:28,000
just drifting slightly forward, then it is going to be a really aggressive or dynamic lower body movement.
00:01:28,000 --> 00:01:30,000
Now let's talk about the arm.
00:01:30,000 --> 00:01:34,000
So if I'm in this down the line view, you can see the amount of bend in my arms pretty easily.
00:01:34,000 --> 00:01:37,000
Well, when I come back to impact for a finesse wedge,
00:01:37,000 --> 00:01:41,000
it's basically going to be about the same position.
00:01:41,000 --> 00:01:44,000
So in the full swing and your stock full swing,
00:01:44,000 --> 00:01:47,000
we talk about the lower body getting ahead of the upper body,
00:01:47,000 --> 00:01:52,000
the side tilt and the rotation kind of giving you this look here,
00:01:52,000 --> 00:01:55,000
and then your arms are going to be kind of bent,
00:01:55,000 --> 00:01:58,000
but extending through the shot for the finesse wedge.
00:01:58,000 --> 00:02:02,000
We're going to have those arms powering more of the shot,
00:02:02,000 --> 00:02:04,000
so they're going to tend to get straight soon,
00:02:04,000 --> 00:02:08,000
and then they're going to tend to almost bend a little bit as we go through.
00:02:08,000 --> 00:02:11,000
So I'll demonstrate one from each perspective.
00:02:11,000 --> 00:02:15,000
We've got face on, so here's my twist as fine.
00:02:15,000 --> 00:02:17,000
We're going to have setup.
00:02:17,000 --> 00:02:19,000
We're going to have impact.
00:02:19,000 --> 00:02:24,000
So setup, impact, setup, impact.
00:02:24,000 --> 00:02:27,000
You'll see it's just very, very subtle.
00:02:27,000 --> 00:02:30,000
It'll end up looking something like that.
00:02:31,000 --> 00:02:37,000
So down the line, we've got setup, we've got impact, we've got setup,
00:02:37,000 --> 00:02:38,000
we've got impact.
00:02:38,000 --> 00:02:43,000
If we were to then hit one, set up impact,
00:02:43,000 --> 00:02:46,000
just like so.
00:02:46,000 --> 00:02:50,000
We've got setup, we've got impact.
00:02:50,000 --> 00:02:59,000
If we were to then hit one, set up impact,
00:02:59,000 --> 00:03:06,000
just like so.
00:03:06,000 --> 00:03:09,000
Set up impact, just like so.
00:03:09,000 --> 00:03:13,000
So that's impact fixed, where you're basically practicing,
00:03:13,000 --> 00:03:15,000
going just from setup to impact,
00:03:15,000 --> 00:03:17,000
to give your brain kind of the start and the finish,
00:03:17,000 --> 00:03:20,000
and then you can let your smart brain figure out
00:03:20,000 --> 00:03:23,000
how you're going to use these movements to connect those two dots.
