Re: Arms/release informing the body.

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 12, 2021, 11:20 a.m.

Thanks for sharing the story. It's a hard sell early on. Many golfers think the arms just happen naturally. The phrase I use a lot; "The arms can only work as well as the body, and the body can only work as well as the arms". In general, I find that…

Re: Too low and left with knee buckle?

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 12, 2021, 11:15 a.m.

That low left exit can come from either:
Too much forward flexion (not you)
Too much lead arm internal rotation (possibly - worth exploring)
Too much trail wrist flexion instead of pronation (probably part of your issue)
Too little ulnar deviation (…

Re: right arm bend at impact.

Glad you appreciated the video. I figure that eventually, it will be rare that I haven't filmed a video answering a golfers question. Until then, feel free to keep asking!

Re: 4 Angles what do you see ?

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 7, 2021, 9:34 a.m.

If your main goal is improving the 2-way miss, I would probably work on a little bit better connection in the shoulders. It looks like they rotate a good bit down at impact.

With a month to get ready, I would look at the courses I'm playing to see…

No worries. I cheat on me sometimes too ;) My goal with the site is to help you all learn how to be your own coach. So if you look at other stuff, I want you to know how to think about it critically. Who does it apply to? What else has to happen for…

Re: Pull Down in Transition

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 7, 2021, 8:33 a.m.

I don't think it's really about keeping that trail leg more passive. To me, it looks more like the chest doesn't really turn and the trail arm has more of a throw pattern. So working on drills to feel more of a body hit or upper body sequence drills…

Re: Releasing radial deviation early and its effects on speed

  By: Tyler F on Feb. 7, 2021, 8:26 a.m.

I haven't seen data, but my guess is very little. I think there would be a much bigger correlation between releasing the trail wrist extension and speed. I often see amateurs keep radial as long as pros, but rarely do they have the right trail wrist…

Re: What are your golf goals for 2020?

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 30, 2021, 7:28 p.m.

A deeper hand path at P5 vs P3 comes more from the sequence of using the lower body prior to the shoulders pulling. It can be a good area to focus on. Sequencing is not the only reason that golfers early extend, but it's a common balance to early ar…

Re: not wanting to go back

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 30, 2021, 7:19 p.m.

Sometimes there is no going back. It's best to be able to recognize where you are and pick a course of action that will likely improve it.

If your goal is more solid contact, then you have to identify what might be a reason for the poor contact. A…

Re: get the body to stay home

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 25, 2021, 5:29 p.m.

One of the challenges with the golf swing is that golfers do the same thing for different reasons. In your case, you'd want to try and figure out if you are moving toward the ball to help with power, or to help with more solid contact. I usually fig…

Re: Pull Down in Transition

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 25, 2021, 5:25 p.m.

I almost always start with the Merry Go Round drill as a reference for rotation, but then I'll do something for the timing of the rotation, like the reverse pump. I start there and then troubleshoot based on what shows up. Most golfers don't do it p…

Re: Pull Down in Transition

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 18, 2021, 9:57 a.m.

As far as depth goes, I don't think you'd want to add too much more at the top. Your handle is close to your heel at the top (that's a decent reference point for handle depth)
Looking at the key positions, I'd like to see some more body rotation, wi…

Re: Pull Down in Transition

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 11, 2021, 8:20 p.m.

Looking at transition, I would try to answer a few questions and get to the bottom of it.

Where is the pull down coming from? Is it coming more from the left side or right side. Is it a compensation move for a poor release? Is it because my backswi…

Re: Early extension (late)

  By: Tyler F on Jan. 11, 2021, 1:43 p.m.

If it's going off to the right, it looks to me like it is a little "wipey" down at the bottom. The supination seems the most likely because the path appears to dart left just after impact.

Hi Ed,

Answers:
1 - Yes, Body down and body turn are both steepeners, so usually that is balanced by more shallow arm movements (arm rotation and ulnar deviation).

2 - staying in posture tends to slow down the rate of closure, and generally make …
