Re: Filling Out a Turtle Shell

  By: Ed C on July 25, 2024, 10:31 p.m.

Ok Tyler, after an in-person lesson, I think I figured out how to keep the shoulders closed @ impact while letting the arms release. My issue is the hips now stay closed (hybrid swing attached). Two questions come to mind:

1) Are there any drills y…

Reminder to self: Just do what Tyler says to do.

I worked on the cues you gave me and it's like I have a brand new swing.

Progressing from air swings to hitting a rubber tee (toe miss). This week will introduce a golf ball...

Thanks Tyler.

My game plan is to come in & see you in person this summer for a much-needed tune-up or start of an overhaul.

In the mean time, I feel like taking a break on the early extension piece. Is there anything you would encourage me t…

Filling Out a Turtle Shell

  By: Ed C on June 15, 2024, 4:46 p.m.

Ok Tyler, I have been working on the turtle shell to eliminate early (back) extension. This DTL is the current work in progress. It's quite hard for me to feel filling out the turtle shell during transition, so I'm constantly checking video during a…

Re: Battling Early Extension

  By: Ed C on Dec. 7, 2023, 10:51 a.m.

Updated DTL swing after practicing these drills for a week:

(A) merry go round
(B) head on a pillow

Also fixed the low pull hook by adjusting my setup to play a fade, from neutral. Much better contact, consistency and dispersion now, although it…

Battling Early Extension

  By: Ed C on Dec. 2, 2023, 9:58 p.m.

I think I'm a lower body dominant early extender, who likes to feel like I'm generating power & speed from the legs.

In these swings, I'm working on feeling the core engaged to stay in posture on the downswing; and supinating the forearms thro…

Re: Big Pushes w/ Driver

  By: Ed C on May 9, 2022, 9:52 p.m.

Here is my face on swing after working on Moe Norman & "don't break my arm" drills.

Right now it feels like as soon as I start bracing, the hips fly open while the torso and shoulders try and stay closed to the target, leading to more side ben…

Re: Big Pushes w/ Driver

  By: Ed C on April 24, 2022, 10:35 p.m.

Thanks Tyler.

When I'm doing the Moe Norman drill and keeping the lead elbow pointed down the line, it almost feels like I'm dragging the handle across my torso, or like I'm unsheathing a sword across my torso with the lead elbow pointed high in t…

Re: Big Pushes w/ Driver

  By: Ed C on April 24, 2022, 4:08 p.m.

One other observation I had about my backswing is that my trail leg push "looks" to be too lateral, causing the hip slide over the front foot. When I practice pushing the trail leg at a 60 degree angle from the ground (so the trail leg push feels mo…

Big Pushes w/ Driver

  By: Ed C on April 23, 2022, 8:47 p.m.

Hi Tyler,

Shaking off a rusty swing here.

Here are two driver swings, with the current miss being a push or push fade to the right.

The 3rd swing is a 7-iron where I'm practicing a 9-3 "feeling". Positionally it's probably more like a 10-2 swi…

Re: Lead Leg During Backswing

Thanks - hip flexibility makes sense.

Is it fair to assume that it doesnt affect the consistency of ball striking at that elite level?

Lead Leg During Backswing

  By: Ed C on Oct. 18, 2021, 9:43 p.m.

What causes the lead leg to turn inward during the backswing - for some golfers, but not others?

Matthew Wolff & Bubba Watson come to mind as players with very pronounced lead leg movement during the backswing, whereas Rory's lead leg seems mo…

Re: Engaging Core

  By: Ed C on Sept. 29, 2021, 8:46 p.m.

Thanks!

I'll use the core activation feeling in the 10-2 pump drill and apply it into the full swing. Once you mentioned it, I realize now it's not the same feeling at all in the core between the two swings.

Engaging Core

  By: Ed C on Sept. 23, 2021, 10:30 p.m.

I've been working on the engaging the core muscles during transition, to "turtle shell" and clear more space for the arms to wipe and for the path to come more in-to-out, replacing what early extension was providing.

With 10-2 pump drills, impact …

Re: Some progress...

  By: Ed C on July 22, 2021, 3:54 p.m.

Ok, I have been improving the flat spot by trying to lengthen the swing radius through impact. (Practice swings look better on video than when I actually hit the ball, of course)

By getting rid of early extension, my path now looks to be coming fro…
