Re: Help on short putts

  By: Tyler F on June 28, 2022, 10:27 a.m.

Hi Scott,

It does look like the release is a little armsy. You can see that there is a pretty good recoil of the club just post-impact. That usually only happens on a short put if you are hitting more from the wrists. To try and get a little more …

Re: Re:your video over the top at the bottom

  By: Tyler F on June 28, 2022, 10:10 a.m.

Hi Joseph,

Yes, it does look like the club gets a little over at the bottom. There are a couple of main reasons someone gets over at the bottom. The arms pull in too much or the body turns too level. Looking at your release, primarily from the fac…

Re: Trouble with rotation

  By: Tyler F on June 23, 2022, 1:31 p.m.

Hi William,

There are a couple key relationships that help a player get more open. One is getting used to the body position at impact. In order to have the body open, the spine has to be rotated to the right at impact. (https://www.golfsmartacademy…

Re: First Steps?

  By: Tyler F on June 23, 2022, 1:20 p.m.

Hi Lawrence,

The first post is always the hardest. I think you have some good elements to build upon. If it were me, and I wasn't pressed for an upcoming tournament or something, then I would probably focus on the release. Your low point issues, a…

Re: Cant stop flipping

  By: Tyler F on June 20, 2022, 7:31 p.m.

Hi Daniel,

I think since you have a practice net at home, I'd put in some reps with the left arm-only drill. Maybe 10-15 minutes per session for a couple of weeks.

Looking at the full swing you've posted, that left arm pulling looks to be a bigger…

Re: Unusual Head Movement while Putting

  By: Tyler F on June 20, 2022, 2:04 p.m.

Hi Trent,

Posting your putting videos is definitely encouraged. It's not popular, but it's as much fun to work through as the full swing.

As far as your move, there are two things going on. What's causing the move? Should you fix it?

What's caus…

Re: Need your help

  By: Tyler F on June 17, 2022, 9:54 p.m.

Hey Bud,

I think that's a good choice. So looking at your wedge swing, it looks like the arms get behind you and the release is overly up in the exit. Meaning, you have too much lift of the arms and not enough body rotation on the way through.

He…

Re: Am I on the right track

One phrase I use a bunch, "you can't have different results with the same video". Sometimes it's hard to see the quality of the changes on video, but if you are getting different results, then something has changed, at least slightly.

The club hea…

Re: Wipe with ulnar deviation

I think one key point where I differ is that I don't believe that what we feel always matches reality. What you feel depends on what you are doing as it compares to the model (https://www.golfsmartacademy.com/golf-instruction/comparing-your-pattern-…

Re: Golf Diary and Range Notes

  By: Tyler F on June 17, 2022, 7:45 a.m.

Hi Jane,

Thank you. Yes, I got married about 6 weeks ago and enjoying the new chapter. New things to work on, but enjoying it all nonetheless.

Great question. I've had a "going to the range worksheet" on my project list for quite some time. But u…

Re: Need your help

  By: Tyler F on June 16, 2022, 9:31 p.m.

Hi Bud,

Thanks for sharing your swing, there's a lot in there to unpack. I am a big fan of getting clear on goals. You can work on your swing, you can work on shot ability, you can work on scoring, but those aren't always the same. So I'm a little…

Re: Arms extending spectrum

  By: Tyler F on June 16, 2022, 8:26 a.m.

With the finesse wedge, I don't like to see a lot (or hardly any) lengthening of the arms through impact. So if they are straight, they stay straight and if they are bent, they stay bent. So yes, it is a spectrum from the driver (max extending) to t…

Re: Cant stop flipping

  By: Tyler F on June 16, 2022, 8:11 a.m.

Hi Dan,

I agree that the shaft extender is the best. Let's look at why. See the attached pictures.

In your swing, it looks like you have a pretty strong pull of the left arm inward and the hands give the appearance of flipping. I'm guessing if we…

Re: Starting my self-coaching journey

  By: Tyler F on June 11, 2022, 7:35 a.m.

Yes, sounds like you're likely on the right track.

Often times that arm pull move is tied to power, so when you swing full it will be more likely to creep back in. At least initially. Keep ramping up the shorter swings in terms of length and aggre…

Re: Wipe with ulnar deviation

Connecting the ulnar deviation and the wipe can be tricky. Here's a little video I did answering another question during the pandemic.
