Re: Starting my self-coaching journey

Hi Andrew,

The first time posting your swing is always the scariest.

I think you're on the right track with the body stuff you're working on. I think you'll want to complement some arm training to help make it easier. Specifically, it looks like …

Re: Hip rise in Transition

  By: Tyler F on June 6, 2022, 10:57 a.m.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the congratulations. It's been a wonderful, busy, couple of months so far!

Looking at your swing, it looks like hip rise in transition is part of the arm pull pattern. Your arm pull pattern looks more likely driven by the l…

Hi Rasmus,

I'd say yes to all those adjustments. They will all help move the low point forward and control depth. I don't often recommend getting more open since it causes a lot of golfers to they shallow out their body too much. But the rest of th…

Re: Where should I start

  By: Tyler F on June 6, 2022, 9:46 a.m.

Hi Scott,

Yes, it's common to feel that the motorcycle is done earlier with the longer clubs. I'd hope that your brain figures it out, but you can give it a quick look on video if you're having any doubts about the timing.

That's awesome about the…

Re: Hitting high shots

  By: Tyler F on June 6, 2022, 9:40 a.m.

Hi Rasmus,

  1. Getting the AOA lower will help with the launch as well as getting a little less shaft lean. So yes, a common reaction is feeling that you're picking the ball compared to your normal stock swing.

For some golfers, swinging a little m…

Hi Scott,

Welcome to the site! You started at the right place by posting your swing. You'll learn how to be your own best golf coach by learning how to analyze your video and relate the video to your stats/performance.

I'd start with impact, if yo…

Hi William,

Welcome to the site, glad you're learning so much so quickly!

On to your issue. Typically, the big causes of toe shots are:
Standing up/pulling away from the ball
Tilting back too much
Arms pulling in
Outside in path

Looking at the pi…

Re: driver should be more efficient - farther?

  By: Tyler F on May 19, 2022, 9 a.m.

Here's a quick little video. I just have a pool noodle or alignment stick in line with the golf ball so that I can see where my hands need to be at impact. Could help with the timing of the release.

I can take a picture tomorrow, but basically a pool noodle in line with the golf ball to help give you a visual of where the hands need to be at contact. Right now, you'd pass the pool noodle well before impact.

A good visual checkpoint for the Moe Norman move is the space between the left bicep and ribs. You can see how your shoulder is pulling around behind you more so than the two Johnsons swings at the same point. I think the x-factor feeling you descri…

Re: Swing mechanics

  By: Tyler F on May 16, 2022, 6:27 p.m.

Hi Jim,

One issue that would be helpful to rule out is your camera angle. The camera angle on the video you shot is close to the ground and closer to the foot line than the hand line. Both of those will make things look steeper than it really is. …

Re: driver should be more efficient - farther?

  By: Tyler F on May 8, 2022, 6:38 a.m.

Hi Andrej,

The three main influences for distance are ball speed, launch angle, spin rate. That first picture shows a lot of shaft lean for a driver. You'll want to have the shaft more vertical at impact (more similar to the picture of Rory). With …

Re: Can’t seem to fix my stall/flip

  By: Tyler F on May 1, 2022, 8:20 p.m.

Keeping the right elbow in front of the chest is part of it, but you also need to get the right shoulder to get through the ball. You'll see in this little video how your right shoulder stays back during the whole release, where Tommy Fleetwood (and…

That's one way someone could describe the wipe. So yes, I'd say that's not a bad feeling to investigate. Although, it could also mean that you're providing too much of the hit from the arm motion instead of the core/obliques. So the feel depends.

K…

Re: Left hip issue

  By: Tyler F on April 25, 2022, 9:09 a.m.

Yes, it looks like the hip is fairly tight. So you're hitting end range sooner than most, which puts more stress on the glute muscles. You can get them stronger and work to improve the range of motion of the hip. You could also turn the lead foot ou…
